Claude & Ooh la la…we mean Uli
A long time ago, Chef Claude met Austrian-born Uli and said “ooh la la!” They have been together ever since, serving delectable, classic bistro fare. Both loyal clientele and first-time diners appreciate the influence of both French and Austrian cuisine in the menu selections.
Chef Claude Melchiorri
Like many famous chefs, Chef Claude’s cooking experience began at his mother’s side, when he helped her prepare meals from scratch for 20-30 people every day. Claude went from there to a two-year chef apprenticeship in his hometown of Normandy, France, a haute-cuisine heaven where bountiful farms, orchards and coastline provide fabulous cheese, produce and seafood.
His culinary experience was honed in some of the world’s most legendary restaurants, including Maxim’s in Paris, the Connaught in London, where he was Chef Saucier, and San Francisco’s famous Ernie’s. He was also a chef for dining destinations in Switzerland and Bermuda, and ran La Normandie in Orlando, Florida for 15 years.
Chef Claude and Uli have lived on Hilton Head Island since 1994. He said, “being on the coast reminds me of my Normandy,” then he laughed and added, “but it’s warmer, so it’s better!”
